Our Aim

Hermitage Field is situated in the stunning Crook O’Lune in the Forest of Bowland AONB. The charity’s aim is to restore 5.5 Acres of the field.

Hermitage Field is a 5.5 acre field in the parish of Halton-with-Aughton, which overlooks the Crook O’Lune, a beauty spot on the River Lune close to Lancaster. It is a community resource, owned by Lancaster City Council, and a well-used footpath which passes through the field gives spectacular views along the Lune valley to Ingleborough. However, the field’s potential as a haven for wildlife is not currently being fully realised.

The Hermitage Field Community Meadow charity was set up in 2020 by five local residents. The aim of the Trustees is to bring this rather neglected field back to life by working with community volunteers, local farmers and contractors to create a vibrant, flower-rich meadow, alive with colour, and buzzing with insects. We want it to be an area rich in wildlife which enhances the local landscape and which the whole community can enjoy.
