The Second Year Of Our Meadow

After all the hard work of ground preparation, seed sowing, plug planting and hay cut in 2021, it was wonderful to see the fantastic display of colour in 2022. Hermitage Field was transformed from its former existence as species-poor sheep pasture, into a vibrant mix of grasses and hay meadow wildflowers, alive with insects.

In 2022 volunteers continued growing wildflower plugs in Lancaster City Council’s poly tunnels. We held frequent work parties to plant out the plugs during the summer months, before the annual hay cut in September.
